I’m the kind of person who is constantly listening to music. For me, the lyrics are the most important part of a song. I like when a song tells a story or talks about something important. So here are 10 songs that have a meaningful message to them and are trying to make a statement about something important:
1. How Could You Leave Us? by NF
This song is about a mother who passed away from a drug overdose. It shows the pain a child has when their parent is always absent because they are addicted to drugs. It shows how drugs can consume a person's life and how it hurts the people closest to them.
2. Polygraph Eyes by YUNGBLUD
Polygraph Eyes is about a girl who gets drunk on a night out and a guy takes advantage of her. It’s about sexual assault and rape cultural. It shows the importance of consent and how an intoxicated person can’t give consent.
3. Skinny Skinny by Ashton Irwin
This song is about body image and body dysmorphia. It’s about not feeling at home in your own body and fighting with what you see in the mirror. It also shows how any person can struggle with eating disorders and what it really does to a person.
4. Little Lady by Ed Sheeran feat. Mikill Pane
This song tells a story of a girl who is forced into prostitution by her uncle and is murdered on her 13th birthday. It shows how the people closest to you can sometimes be the ones who hurt you the most. It shows how you shouldn’t leave other people to protect your children because you never know what kind of person they truly are. This song is heartbreaking, but it shares an important message.
5. Dear Mr. President by P!nk feat. Indigo Girls
Dear Mr. President is written like a letter to the President. It shows how the people of a country can be hurting and questions how the president is handling that. This song was released in 2006, but it is very fitting for everything going on in 2020 with the upcoming election.

Wrabel wrote this song in support of the transgender community. It’s about how there isn’t anything wrong with you just because you are different from the rest of your family. It shows how there is nothing wrong with being who you are. If your family doesn’t support you for being you, then your family is the one with the problem not you.

This song is about how everyone has the same blood. The world is made up of all different kinds of people, but we all bleed red. It’s about fighting the war on racism.

This song is about a woman in an abusive relationship. It’s about standing up to domestic violence and how wrong it is to emotionally or physically hurt the person you are in a relationship with.

This song is about how unfair the world is to a woman and not knowing what to tell your daughter. It makes you think about all the ways you want to change the world so you can protect your child.
